An underrated element of global poverty is blindness -- because of cataracts, vitamin A deficiency, river blindness, trauma, trachoma and more. These are often preventable, very cheaply, and there has in fact been huge progress in several of these. A new Seva study estimates $1 trillion in annual productivity losses from uncorrected vision in low- and middle-income countries.
