I moved to NC 32 yrs ago and today it is unrecognizable. A once quiet, sleepy small coastal city is now one huge traffic jam with plastic houses on every square inch, apartments everywhere, people begging on Facebook and next door, because somehow everybody is suddenly entitled to live at the beach. The taxes and insurance are unsustainable and although I’m less than 10 mins from the beach, I haven’t been there in three years because you cannot park.

I moved to rural NC for the peace, the trees, and the blue skies. Now, I see clear-cut farms replaced by $700k 'tiny' units, constant traffic, and planes overhead. We’re pushing wildlife into the roads and losing our soul to sprawl. Is anyone else mourning the town we used to be? 💔

How many more dental offices and 500-unit developments can one small NC town take? The trees are down, the horses are gone, and the 'quiet life' is now a 24/7 construction zone. Yeah see that’s where you’re wrong. Most of us actively tried to do something but we realized it’s a battle we simply weren’t going to win. Republicans and conservatives for the most part are cowards. It was on average 1 against 100 and the state government and the federal government every time we tried to do something. You can’t win a fight when you don’t have numbers. Most of us lost literally everything up until the point we were actively forced to leave the state.
