The way Indian chess has progressed in the last 10 years isn't talked about enough. From just 1 player in top-15 rankings to 1/3rd of top-15 being Indians as 5 of our players feature in top-15 now. There were only 4 Indian players in the top-100 in 2015, now there are 12.

@sportsgeek007 @humpy_koneru Are you on FIDE's payroll that your ass is burning the most from her withdrawal? Which chess tournament in India was happening during the war last year that she'd pull out, dumbass? Even IPL was suspended during the war.

@humpy_koneru An absolute pathetic decision. Can't remember you pulling out of tournaments from India last year during war, huh? Also, pulling out at the last moment making it difficult for FIDE to find replacement and giving the replacement time to prepare. Disgusting to say the least.

After deep reflection, I have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament. No event, no matter how important, can come before personal safety and well-being. Despite the assurances provided, I do not feel fully secure under the current circumstances. This is a painful but necessary decision, and I stand by it.

@TylerJones94228 @ChessbaseIndia @DivyaDeshmukh05 @PragueChess Lol this performance itself is worthy of a GM norm as her TPR is above 2600. She had 2 "GM norms" before this tournament including one at Open section of Grand Swiss so she already has 3 GM norms & would've made GM either way. You should stfu about things you've no idea about.

@ChessbaseIndia @DivyaDeshmukh05 @PragueChess Crown of nothing, barely GM Elo. The stupidity to give women the gm title for winning a world cup with only women is just insane. Bet she couldn't do 3 Norms in her whole life.

GM Divya Deshmukh finishes 3rd at Prague Chess Challengers 2026! Divya defeated IM Stepan Hrbek with the Black pieces today in the final round, finishing the event with a +1 score and 5/9 points. Divya scored 2 wins - against GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly and IM Stepan Hrbek. She lost just one game against GM Zhu Jiner, and drew 6 games - an excellent performance in a field full of strong GMs, many rated over 2600! Just to give an idea of Divya's growth in the past year - she scored 3/9 points in the Prague Challengers 2025. Divya is now Women's World no.10 in live ratings, with a rating of 2509.3 - her career peak rating! This is her last classical tournament before the FIDE Women's Candidates 2026. Huge congratulations to Divya for a stellar run and best wishes to her for the Candidates! Graphic: Anmol Bhargav #chess #chessbaseindia #divyadeshmukh #praguechess #womeninchess

@akakrcb6 What makes it even more insane: this is now the highest score by an Indian batter, apart from Smriti and Harman.

@DanielRensch There are fewer places to play chess online now because you keep acquiring sites like chess24 and shutting them down. Thats a textbook case of monopoly.

@carissayipchess Cap, you had defeated a GM before your 11th birthday and at the time became the youngest female player ever to defeat a GM, a record that was broken only recently by Bodhana.

♟️🇮🇳 GM Divya Deshmukh, the reigning FIDE Women’s World Cup winner, has been awarded a wild card for the FIDE World Cup 2025 in Goa by the FIDE President. This follows a last-minute cancellation of one of the participants, with Ju Wenjun and Hou Yifan having earlier declined the invitation. The young Indian star recently competed at the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025, and now she will fight for glory on her home soil in Goa, India. 🇮🇳✨ 📷 Michal Walusza/FIDE

@EmilSutovsky Are some of the wildcards going to women players? The number of participants should have been increased this time to ensure more women got an opportunity to play in Open World Cup as it's not clashing with the Women's World Cup & they don't have to choose one over the other.

Important clarification: FIDE is not distributing wild cards for Indian players in Goa. There is a quota for AICF as hosts to decide on the local wild cards. Of course, all the highest-rated Indian players are already in, qualifying one way or another, but it is up to AICF to decide - who will join them and get the wild cards. Not an easy choice, as a number of exceptional players in India keeps growing. One thing I'm certain about - no matter who will be picked, it will be a worthy contender. As for the FIDE picks - more names to follow!

@chess24com Candidates isn't the perfect tournament but a tournament where almost every match in later stages gets decided in rapid or blitz tiebreaks is better for him. Why not have Chesscom bullet championship to decide the World Champion?
