@i_am_mill_i_am Adam here: FEEDING TIME received a review from an elderly novelist that declared “I’m sure it will be glowingly received and may even win a prize or two…but then I’m an old man.” Absolutely delighted that he was wrong on both counts, so…err… I win!😝

@john_self Amit Chaudhuri has a very interesting essay on this kind of thing in his collection The Origins of Dislike. TLDR: the abandonment of words like “masterpiece“ by critics/academics, essentially allowed them to be appropriated and redefined by marketing departments.

Question for people with young kids, from a person with no kids: how do you feel about being invited to events/to hang out when there’s every likelihood you’ll be too busy with babies to come? Is it nice to be thought of, or is it just one more stressful thing to say no to?
