@StarryxMarie My most recent tweet has a link to a comprehensive guide to getting diagnosed and advocating for yourself. I even have helpful phrases to combat discrimination!

Adult women with ADHD/ADD, how did you advocate for yourself? Especially if you were diagnosed as an adult. I feel like I can't quite put into words how this is effecting me, and want to make sure I feel like I'm being heard by my doctor.

If you have experienced discrimination based on gender, age, intelligence, success, etc. during an ADHD evaluation: I made a worksheet to help center the discussion around actual DSM-5 diagnostic criteria with phrases for responding to discrimination. bit.ly/3MpfdWZ

How to respond to: “You’re too smart/successful to have ADHD.” Intelligence and success are not a part of the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for ADHD. There are MANY smart and successful people who have ADHD.

Them: She wants ADHD meds so she can get ahead. Me: I need meds so I say “bye” instead of “love you” on work calls.

@TrevorBoller I only have important notifications (text, phone calls, calendar, reminders, slack) go to my watch! Distracting ones only go to my phone!

@shanander I feel a Smart Watch would kill me. That I would be distracted by the buzzes every few mins?

11. Hydration Staying hydrated is incredibly important for the #ADHD brain but remembering to drink/refill can be challenging. Every morning, I fill up multiple water bottles with 64oz water so I can see how much water I still need to drink for the day. #ADHDAwarenessMonth

10. Individualized Education Program (IEP) An #IEP can get you MANY accommodations including: - extra time/format changes for tests/homework - 2 sets of textbooks (home + school) - fidget toys + chewing gum - extra breaks (go for walk when overstimulated) - seating arrangements

@think_divergent The trick I use is my watch has 2 homes where it belongs and it is ONLY allowed to ever go in those 2 places: on my wrist and on the charger. I'm not allowed to put it anywhere else!
