This should have been addressed in the piece actually. One reason there isn’t a joint team is that Kosovo’s constitution bars any effort to create a single country with Kosovo & Albania. So while there is a joint basketball league you can’t have a joint national team.

@Millar_Colin @TheAthleticFC Really good read. I think there should be a united Kosovo Albania team, if nothing else to stop 2 small nations fighting over the same player pool. On paper it would be competitive

And the whole section on what people believe abt recognition vs the reality needs a lot of work.

Ok it’s not as if there aren’t enough ppl who have written abt Kosovo & Albania. That is the weirdest link on religion ever. Ppl are mostly Muslim. That’s it. Some are secular many aren’t. And the whole section on ethnicity needs an edit for proper flow also…

10 years ago, football did not Kosovo. Tonight, they can qualify for the World Cup. A decade of challenges, setbacks & resistance could bring "the most important day since independence". The symbolism goes beyond the pitch Free to read on @TheAthleticFC nytimes.com/athletic/71581…

Serbian police are raiding the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade, broadcast live on pro-regime TV channels. The pretext is the body of a 25-year-old woman found in front of the Faculty of Philosophy a few days ago. This is a deeply concerning major violation of the university autonomy.

“Italy is a nation we consider a friend, and I would like everyone to stand and applaud when the Italian anthem is played, because they were the first to come to our country in 1996 to play a friendly match with us, and we are grateful to them for that.” — Edin Džeko

Kosovo is a win away from the World Cup. Which is crazy: 14 years ago the late president of the then unrecognised FA & I were sneaking around the Albanian team hotel in Switzerland looking for Xhaka & Shaqiri to sign a petition demanding FIFA recognition! nytimes.com/2012/09/20/spo…

Nobody who saw a slung-together Kosovo train beneath the belching Obiliq power plants in 2014, before splashing through a first official game against Haiti, would believe they're on verge of World Cup now. Piece from Pristina with two who've seen it all: theguardian.com/football/2026/…

U Prištini je počela konferencija „Društvena kohezija u podeljenim društvima – uporedne perspektive i lokalne stvarnosti“. Razgovaramo o dijalogu, jačanju društva, inkluzivnijim institucijama i konkretnim putevima za izgradnju poverenja i ravnopravnog učešća.

@sljuka11 I think for our readers these might have had more resonance. If for nothing else they’re larger and it’s closer to potential parliamentary elex. The avg reader isn’t following every step in Serbia or anywhere else but want a what do I need to know now.

@sharenao These may have been more significant in certain aspects, but the earlier local elections – especially the initial rounds in Kosjerić and Zaječar – were also highly important.

@sharenao "Local elections across 10 Serbian municipalities turned tense in the first electoral test for a year-and-a-half-long student protest movement." These weren't the first electoral test. Local elections were already held in 2025 in 5 municipalities.
