Women and Law in Southern Africa - Zimbabwe
#ICYMI: WLSA convened a training session for journalists on rights-based reporting on Termination of Pregnancy, bringing together media practitioners from NewsDay, Zimbabwe Independent, and other outlets to strengthen accurate and ethical coverage of sexual and reproductive health and rights. The training revealed a critical gap: while journalists are willing to report on these issues, access to clear legal and medical information remains limited — allowing misinformation and ideological narratives to shape public discourse. Journalists committed to fact-based, non-judgmental reporting grounded in evidence and the experiences of women and girls seeking access to safe and legal termination of pregnancy. WLSA will continue to support journalists through accessible resources and structured media engagement to strengthen accurate and responsible reporting. #SRHR @RichardMushong2 @table_girls @UNTrustFundEVAW @advocatecynthia @PatriciaMashiri @mutamba_tsitsi @NicolaWatson13 @weleadteam @PAWLEM1 @Tatenda30720302 @thabanimnyama @amnesty_zim @femalestudents @WCOZIMBABWE @UNTrustFundEVAW @MUSASAZIM @WCOZIMBABWE

The Girls Table stands in solidarity with Faith Zaba, a trailblazing Zimbabwean editor, investigative journalist, and outspoken women’s rights advocate, who was unjustly arrested and detained on July 1, 2025. Ms. Zaba faces charges of “undermining the authority” of the president. Faith Zaba’s arrest is not just an attack on one individual, but a direct assault on press freedom, freedom of expression, and the fundamental rights of women to participate fully and safely in public discourse. The Girls Table condemns the targeting of journalists and women leaders who dare to challenge the status quo. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of Faith Zaba and urge the authorities to respect the vital role of a free press in a democratic society. We also stand with all journalists, activists, and women who continue to face intimidation and violence for speaking truth to power. #JournalismIsNotACrime #StandWithFaithZaba #PressFreedom

It can vanish for a day or two but will come back home.
