@sharp_teaching A1 "Makes me Wanna Holla" by Nathan McCall. It was a autobiography about a young African American man that had to learn the hard way. He served his time and changed his life ..had a supportive family and options to get his life together.

@sharp_teaching A4: Personally, I have not. I did help support a teacher who had a parent not want their child to read The Watsons go to Birmingham because of the slang in it. We spoke to the parent together to listen to their concerns, then asked the parent for a replacement book suggestion.

@sharp_teaching A3: Looking for Alaska is a great story about growing up. It is the story of kids who are on the fringes and learn about life together through hardship. Themes include guilt, finding the meaning of life, and hope.

A5. I share what I’m currently reading with my students… I have a special spot on my board for listing my current read. I also ask my students what they enjoy reading and start conversations from there! #myAEA

@sharp_teaching A5 I promote reading by encouraging reading. I have a library for students with several classics and my favorites. #myAEA

@sharp_teaching A4 I have not encountered issues. We can support librarians by promoting literary works that they believe do not get much notoriety, and actively participate in Banned Books Week. #myAEA

@sharp_teaching Q3. It took me a minute to select a book, but I will go with a classic, Toni Morrison's,'Bluest Eye' recants the story of many children of color who are forced to encapsulate society's view of beauty having blonde hair and blue eyes disowning their own features.

@sharp_teaching A1. Richard Wright's 'Black Boy' comes to mind. Although the book was written in 1945. The same black boy lives today.
