Away from all the election stuff can we just all take a moment to celebrate @KatherinePriddy? Her, standing room only, homecoming show tonight at Birmingham Town Hall is going to be the crowning of a uniquely talented Brummie voice as a total superstar at an iconic venue ❤️

Toyoko Inns closed the home of Black Sabbath & Heavy Metal during the World Cup. The one In Brazil. In 2014. They’ve let it rot since then. They say they’re in ‘early stages’ of their plans. What comes first? The Crown reopens, burns down or England win the World Cup? 🤷‍♂️

The current state of what was the UK’s oldest working cinema thanks to 2 years of Glenbrook Property trying to demolish it for a 50 floor tower block. What madness allows this? Destroying community and culture.

If London can tell developers to sod off when they try to demolish your heritage then so can Birmingham
SAVE Britain's Heritage@SAVEtoReuse

🛎️GOOD NEWS: The Railway Bell is saved! Lambeth Council has rejected developer demolition plans ⛔ SAVE wrote to the council in support of the excellent campaign run by @cpneighbours Well done to everyone who commented on the proposal. People power in action💪

You can object to this proposal here: eplanning.birmingham.gov.uk/Northgate/Plan… Our suggestion's a caveated objection. The restoration of the building's welcome & largely good. But that extension on the top's atrocious from this view & causes real harm to Grade II listed buildings & streetscape
Save Station Street, Birmingham@OldStationSt

This bit looks shit though from this position. Absolutely no way that gets approved next to so many GII listed buildings.

What was the UK’s oldest working cinema & the scene greeting visitors to Birmingham at New Street Station. All thanks to Glenbrook Property. @lisanandy you’re the culture Secretary right? When are you coming to visit? Would you accept this in your home town? (📸 @HarpreetKhara)

We’re going to keep being a headache and a problem for local politicians until the UK’s most historic grassroots arts street is saved from the sticky fingers of terrible developers like Glenbrook Property and Toyoko Inns. Station Street needs to be THE celebration of Brummies!

How would I rate the actions of Council Leaders & WM Mayor over the last 2 years regarding Station St? 2/10 Inadequate A vague promise of a 'Cultural Zone' Birthplace of Black Sabbath's still rotting Our 116yr old cinema's still eyed for demolition Not good enough by half so far

Hey @RichParkerLab @BrumLeader @Cllr_suleman Chris makes a fine point here. Know of anywhere with the UK's oldest working cinema, the first Rep Theatre or The birthplace of Black Sabbath and Heavy Metal? Or we could just let Glenbrook property demolish them. Thoughts?
Dr Chris Burden 🐺@WulfrunianChris

Independent cinema closed? Wolverhampton Council invests, generates 10s of local jobs and 40,000 visitors. 1930s concert hall threatened? Wolverhampton Council invests, venue sees 500,000 visitors. Invest in culture. Save your buildings. Rescue the nighttime economy.

Birmingham. Capitalising on its tourism industry. 🙄 And don’t get me started on Station Street. One of the only complete streets from this time period left in the city centre going to get demolished for a gaudy tower
Harry Leach@HarrylLeach

I had another look at the former site of the real Garrison pub in Small Heath, Birmingham, now a kitchen and bedroom specialist. Throughout the entire six-season run of Peaky Blinders, and even now with the movie spin-off, it has never been open for a pint birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-…

Civic failure Dereliction of duty Predatory landlords Authorities that just shrug And the people screwed by this are working class Brummies who love the city of Birmingham. No wonder Brummies think this city’s politics doesn’t work for them anymore.

A few days short of 2 yrs since Glenbrook Property closed the 116 yr old Electric Cinema in Birmingham and tried to call in the bulldozers All they’ve done since then is lie, obfuscate and let what was the UK’s oldest working cinema rot When will civic leaders act for Brummies?
