Thank you to everyone who joined us for Birmingham’s International Women’s Day civic event! 💜 We welcomed more than 160 attendees and partner organisations - #TheRightPath, @RSVP_West_Mids, #WeAre (@Localgiving), @RoshniBham and @WMPolice to the Council House to highlight the work happening across our city to keep women and girls safe. A huge thank you to our speakers, community organisations and frontline services who shared their expertise and experiences. Men and boys also play a vital role as allies, and it was great to see so many joining the conversation. Together, we’re building a safer Birmingham for everyone. #IWD2026 #VAWG #StrongerTogether

🌲 We are improving parks facilities for our communities 🌳 🛝 Today, Cabinet Member Cllr Majid Mahmood joined ward councillor Shehla Moledina and Genevive Jordan from Friends of Calthorpe Park for the official unveiling of the latest play improvements at Calthorpe Park in Balsall Heath. The children’s play area has been extended and redesigned to support a wide range of abilities and needs and is part of upgrades across three Birmingham parks. Improvements also include: ⚽ Six refurbished and new sports pitches at Senneleys Park in Bartley Green, as part of the Long Nuke Road housing development. 🎾 Upgraded tennis courts and new play equipment at Queen’s Park in Harborne and in partnership with Friends of Queens Park. These improvements have been funded through Section 106 contributions.

Last week saw the official launch of the new Adderley Park PlayZone in Alum Rock. 🎉 The outdoor multi sport space, completed in June 2025, has been delivered through the Football Foundation’s national PlayZones initiative, with community access now supported by Our Community Foundation (OCF) and the Aston Villa Foundation. PlayZones represents a major investment in community sport and was made possible through £1.2 million in capital funding with Adderley Park now one of five PlayZones across Birmingham ⚽🏏🏃‍♂️ Cllr Mariam Khan, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, was joined by Ladywood MP and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, along with community partners, to celebrate the opening of the new facility.
