Thanks @Feargal_Sharkey for highlighting our letter to @Ofwat about the lack of internal audit at water firms. Although some comments confuse internal & external audit. External audit only looks at financial reports, internal audit looks at broader risks & internal controls. 👍📢

Oh dear. Good old @Ofwat water industry regulator has become so hopeless at its job that the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors @CharteredIIA has felt the need to write to them telling them several WCs have "significant weakness". Whatever next? ft.com/content/2ea738…

Internal Audit is a critical function that identifies an organisation’s risks and provides independent and objective assurance to the Board through the Audit Committee. There’s a statutory requirement to have this capability in FS sector, but it’s not mandatory for others.

@Feargal_Sharkey @Ofwat @CharteredIIA A few here are misunderstanding the difference between external and internal audit. Internal Audit is an internal function that identifies an organisation’s risks and thereby provides independent andobjective assurance. It usually reports into the Audit Committee at Board level.
