@COPHE_news @DougRichey Missouri’s technical college @statetechmo doesn’t use the term “training”. I was told years ago “we train dogs” may not be totally accurate but it’s stuck with me. We educate for careers not jobs. May be why we are consistently best in the country…

@DougRichey FWIW, in terms of public higher ed, the vast majority of the MO General Assembly also sees the purpose of education as job training. I don't disagree with what I think your main point is, but the "job-centric" assumption in no way starts and ends with folks within education.

Public education’s assumption that the purpose of education is --merely utilitarian-- is both underdeveloped and dangerous. They've linked the primary purpose of education to job prep. Future employers have become the waging tail of education, and the tail is certainly waging the dog. Education bureaucrats have welcomed this with open arms. They’ve not only bled education of its essence and fundamental value, but also participate in the effort to manipulate the interests of individuals as ‘central planners’ determine what ‘we’ need for ‘unknown’ future jobs. It's true that education is related to job skills but that's downstream from the actual purpose. Until we regain a commitment to the classical purpose of education, we’ll continue to crank out human widgets who generally lack the benefits of being well educated. Let’s ‘Make Education Great Again!’
