From a study of healthcare workers (HCWs) with mild COVID-19 compared to matched healthy HCWs controls (HCs), "Selective impairment occurred in orienting and executive control networks, but not in alert network, in the patient group [with mild COVID-19], and widespread cognitive impairment encompassing general attention, memory, and executive dysfunction. the patient group had significantly lower ALFF (amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation) values in the left superior and left middle frontal gyri than the HC group.. SARS-COV-2 infection may have led to reduced brain activity in the left superior and left middle frontal gyri, thus impairing attentional orienting and executive control networks, which may explain the development of attentional deficits [observed in HCWs] after COVID-19." It is scary if healthcare workers become careless and mindless. 'Attentional impairment and altered brain activity in healthcare workers after mild COVID-19' link.springer.com/article/10.100…

I highly disagree. You should do it anyway but being a good person often has a cost. It’s illegal to feed homeless neighbors in many states. At work and in life, people will and do take advantage of kindness. Taking a stand can cost you your employment or education.

Exactly 3 years ago, I caught COVID for the first time. I was not vaccinated, but it was a mild infection, so I was not too worried. Nobody could have told me then, that I would develop Long Covid and MECFS, and lose my life to it.

“brain fog,” like “food desert,” is a phrase developed and popularized specifically to hide violent truths; “potentially fatal cognitive dysfunction, memory loss, and brain damage” doesn’t sound as tolerable as “brain fog,” like “systematically starved region” vs. “food desert.”

i hope that as we all acknowledge this, we stay aware of the fact that palestinians do not need to uphold pristine moral good in order to deserve freedom, safety, and self-determination. they do not need to be perfect victims whose resilience and kindness we turn into a fantasy.
