I’ve been to Gaza. But the only Palestinian states I’ve experienced are France and Canada.

The distinction isn't about what I believe. Under international law, genocide requires the specific intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a protected national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. War, by itself, does not. Israeli scholars and international rapporteurs have agreed that legal threshold has been crossed and it is a "genocide".
