@tomocchino That's the only thing that's important. And it's also incredibly rare, IMO. Thank you.

It'd be awesome if React Native supported a unified API for the View Transition API to support transitions across Web, iOS, and Android: – Web/JavaScript: document.startViewTransition() – iOS/Swift: navigationTransition(.zoom()) – Android/Kotlin: TransitionManager.go() cc @ddvacca @shergin @SamuelSusla @ccheever @Baconbrix

Using the new zoom transition API, how do you disable the source view from scaling down? I have seen at least 1 app being able to do it so I know it’s possible.

@tmikov joking aside, what’s your take on the idea of rewriting React in C++ and effectively making it somewhat an addon to Hermes?

I am happy to announce that the secret project we've been working on lately - rewriting Hermes in Haskell and Go to make it "Static" - is nearing completion! I will do a deep dive later, but in short: the compiler is written in Go (the TypeScript team knows what's up!), and the runtime is written in Haskell, to ensure it is both secure and fast! Switching to a vastly more powerful language like Go instead of C++ for the compiler caused a dramatic rise in productivity. OTOH, I am the first to admit that Haskell in the runtime proved to be a bit controversial in the beginning, since almost nobody knew it - or wanted to learn it. We overcame this hiccup by betting on LLMs and mandating 100% vibe coding for all of the codebase. At this point, HAGS Hermes (Haskell And Go Static Hermes) is already passing almost 0.001% of tests and is only about 23,000% slower. That is a cost our users are happy to pay for a modern and secure engine! Rust was on the table until we realized the compiler was judging us. Every error felt like a personal attack. After the fifth “helpful” suggestion about lifetimes, morale dropped below sea level and two devs tried to join a monastery. We took that as a sign.

I can't believe it's been ten years… We were wrong about async, batched, serializable, but this is otherwise just as relevant today as it was back then. Huge props and thank you to the RN community for a decade-long journey iterating to greatness.

Also the synchronous JS DOM API is a dead sentence for performance.

2/3 of CSS should be let go. E.g. if you compare what RN supports and what browsers support, you will have a decent idea. Fun fact: it is how Flutter started - the Chrome team tried to build a faster renderer with smaller set of supported APIs.

Maybe it's too late to buy Bitcoin, but it's certainly not too late to join Coinbase. While Coinbase isn't for everyone, if you're bold (or bald, or based) enough, please DM me–we're hiring.

@Eli_White Thanks to @DelphineBugner. Nice talk! Also bummed that Josh got more screen time than me, even though you called him "this guy". Also, if it were up to me, I would immediately reject the PR introducing `shouldBeRecycled`. Ofc, I considered that idea initially and dismissed it.

my brother wanted me to spend some time with my niece to teach her math she did really well so we went for some ice cream after but it was pretty sunny so the ice cream started melting — and she said, I shit you not: "mert, we should invent ice cream that doesn't melt" at that moment, I grabbed the ice cream out of her hand, looked at it for a few seconds and promptly threw it at her face and then stomped on the waffle cone part "who do you think you are? only I'm allowed to come up with bad business ideas. founder mode. go walk home"

@shergin I'll vote for Kamala/Walz. I legitimately like them both and think their plan for the country is solid. Do I agree with everything? Of course not. But I agree with enough to feel content.

Europeans are tough. None of my friends in Italy or France have AC in their homes. In Geneva you must have a "valid reason" to purchase AC, such as a health condition. Americans would last 10 minutes there 🇺🇸
