A Sikh personal trainer and TikTok creator is alleging discrimination after he was asked to leave a Windsor, Ontario GoodLife Fitness location for wearing a kirpan, a ceremonial dagger considered one of the Five Ks of Sikh faith. Gurpartap Singh Khalsa shared video of the July 15 incident online, in which a staff member cited safety concerns after another member raised concerns about the kirpan. Khalsa argues the kirpan is protected under Canadian law as a religious article of faith, pointing to the 2006 Supreme Court of Canada ruling in Multani v Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys, which found that a total ban on kirpans violates religious freedom under the Charter unless a genuine, non-trivial safety concern exists. GoodLife Fitness has confirmed it is investigating the incident, stating the interaction did not reflect its established practices, and separately confirmed the employee involved has not been fired despite online claims suggesting otherwise. Khalsa says he has filed a police complaint alleging racial profiling.

Four Charged After Suspect Vehicle Collides With Police Cruiser During Failed Getaway Investigators with York Regional Police have charged four men and are searching for a fifth suspect following an alleged retail theft at a Markham business. Police say officers responded to a business near Fairburn Drive and Highway 7 at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, after receiving reports that multiple suspects were loading power tools into shopping carts. According to investigators, the suspects had been recognized by the store's loss prevention personnel from previous theft incidents at the business. Police said loss prevention staff monitored the group as they moved through the store before allegedly watching them leave without paying. Employees then followed the suspects as they loaded the stolen power tools into a waiting vehicle and immediately alerted responding officers. As the suspects were preparing to flee, officers arrived and attempted to contain the vehicle. Police allege the suspect vehicle struck a police cruiser before all five suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, officers arrested four of the five suspects. A fifth suspect remains outstanding. At the time of their arrests, all four men were on release orders.
