Congratulations to First Minister @JohnSwinney on this historic victory. Leading @theSNP to its 5th term in office after 19 years in office is outstanding. He will serve the people of Scotland with distinction and we should all wish him well in that task.
John Swinney@JohnSwinney

Enormous privilege to be sworn in as the MSP for Perthshire North for my seventh session in the Scottish Parliament, and I look forward to serving the people of Scotland as First Minister. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This is grossly tin-eared @bbcdebatenight - the electorate have just voted in a pro-independence majority to our parliament and you stick 4 right wing unionists on the panel and one pro-indy representative. @bbcscotland unwatchable

@definitivegazer @harryf57 @reformtheUKnow You posted it in response to someone stating that (significantly) more of the electorate voted for pro UK parties than pro indy parties at this election. People who don't vote don't get a say in any of it. Obviously.

It is within Swinney's legal power and the competence of the Scottish Parliament right now to 'Call a popular vote on Independence' without asking the Colonialists in Westminster for permission. It always has been within the power of Scots to make decisions based on the will of the 'Community of Realm' . This has never been repealed in law. The Colonialists in Westminster will be overjoyed that they can once again manipulate the right of Scots to self-determination through the Scotland Act🤦‍♂️. #ScottishIndependence

@GMacdonaldSNP Apart from the fact that you're changing your own made up rules, here, the party leadership would never push for another ref based on the support demonstrated for pro Indy parties at this election. They'll tell you what you want to hear like they always do.

A Mandate - The SNP won 80% of constituency seats. In the UK House of Commons NO party has ever won 80% of seats (not even close). The largest hauls in modern history fall well short: Labour's record: 418 seats in 1997 (64%) Conservatives' record: 397 seats in 1983 (61%).

@FreeGellyBhoy @ziggy6769 That's simply not true. If all the Scots who voted Leave voted Remain instead, the UK would still be in the EU.

@ziggy6769 I'm saying Scotland as well as Wales & the North of Ireland all voted remain, but due to population numbers no matter how we all vote it gets vetoed by England. So in reality our votes don't count & never have.

The FM in Scotland just indicated that 385K of the Scottish electorate votes didn’t count. The leader of your party Reform that you voted for is not welcome at a meeting to hold talks with the opposition leaders. I keep hearing from SNP supporters and nationalists about democracy is this your idea of democracy ?

🗳️ After 10 years of local Tory leadership, it’s time for a refresh + an energised candidate focused on delivery. I won’t stand on the sidelines scoring political points - I’ll act, deliver, and be held accountable. Vote Fatima Joji and the SNP on 7th May. #BothVotesSNP #indyref2

✅ The SNP is a party made in Scotland, for Scotland. Putting Scotland first is who we are and what we will always do. We have mitigated the worst of Westminster cuts and fought for control over our own resources - because Westminster gives us back so little of our own wealth.

@ScotNational There it is, folks - "if a majority of people vote for independence supporting parties". Has never happened and never will. He clearly has no idea. The statement and the National's post are utterly pointless.

Whether you like Reform or not Malcolm is a self made man thats actually done a shift. Unlike the political parasites of the left that offer us benifits for votes. Real leadership is what Scotland needs.
Malcolm Offord@Malcolm_Offord

By the way, Aulds the Bakers, where I used to do the overnight doughnut run, will in April see the bakery's business rates bill increase by over 9%. Between the SNP's taxes and Labour raising their costs, it’s a miracle that businesses survive. Only Reform has their backs.

@shoefaced Hi Mr Faced. The Presiding Officer is elected by the whole Parliament and acts according to standing orders. If the position is disrespected and loses its authority it will be ungovernable and descend into chaos. Being an electoral irrelevance that's probably what the Tories want

@ScotNational How is the SNP getting a majority of MSPs on a minority of votes a mandate for an Indy ref? It wasn't when you had a better performance at the last election, so how would it be this time?

Douglas Ross told to leave the Holyrood chamber after withdrawing his criticism of the Presiding Officer but saying "though I believe it". He was criticising Alison Johnstone about her interruptions on Tory MSP's points of order - and as he sees it - not during those of SNP MSPs.
