Since we announced UCP in January, it’s been powering agentic commerce across some of the biggest AI platforms in the world. Now, new tools are available to anyone who wants to build a shopping experience. That means a solo developer has the same commerce layer as the largest tech companies on the planet. One protocol. Millions of merchants. Billions of products. And every new experience a developer builds? That's a win for merchants too. More places for people to discover and buy their products. Nothing to set up. Trust in our ecosystem is built on the boring stuff being right. For years, public apps on Shopify could hold offline access tokens that never expired. If one leaked, it stayed valid forever.
We’re changing that. Starting January 1, 2027, all apps in the App Store will need to use expiring offline access tokens.
This change will help us keep merchant data secure and help app developers maintain merchant trust.
