is there even a feasible way to enforce bus fares without making getting on/off take forever? no one pays in DC either; every time I board with a group of people, I'm often one of only a couple who actually hits the card reader obv I'd like to see more enforcement, but how?

@shortforaugust @DGDtheSequel sigh the problem is that metro cards (etc) aren't tied to identities; if they were, it'd be easy to simply ban people from the system til fines are paid, but that seems like excessive surveillance to me

Tech pay is usually a combination of a normal paid salary AND something like stock options which is tied to shareholder value. "And nobody in Anthropic is scraping by" - good thing I never said they are but said they work for money which is required to survive and live in western countries. Do you think people at Anthropic would work with no pay and solely to make the company better and thus increase shareholder value? Unless you're going to tell me that people don't need money to live or survive in western countries especially then what was the point in your first comment? The point I'm making is that its insane for a CEO to be "increasingly concerned" that people are working for the thing they need to live and survive and not to make the company and the shareholders richer, aka nothing that benefits them. That's like being a salve owner and thinking "why aren't the salves happy to work for me for free??"

JUST IN: Anthropic CEO reportedly increasingly concerned that new hires are working there for a paycheck, as opposed to the company’s mission.
