For last few months we all have been contemplating - will AI replace humans? Today, my experience did confirm this. Around 3 days back I posted around a requirement for a video editor for an urgent video. I needed a 90 second clip. It would be editing heavy so I could not manage myself. Got a few leads - started convo with 1 of them. The guy was charging Rs 3000 for that video. I got on a call with him and explained him the entire thing. Also provided with scene by scene details on what we were thinking, voice overs etc. But he was not at all responsive and by end of next day gave a sample 3 second video for the starting portion which was terrible. I informed him not to continue and started conversation with another candidate who reached out on X. Initially the guy was very responsive. He said he would charge Rs 2000 for a 90 second video, which was definitely fine for us, later he negotiated it up to Rs 2500 as it would be editing heavy. We also gave him all the details (luckily we had everything, so it was mostly copy paste now). Also got on a call and explained him everything. And as we had already wasted a day, we did not have a lot of time and explained him the urgency. By last night he was supposed to give us some storyboard for us to validate. But no response. We tagged multiple times but nothing. Then the same happened today morning. I called him and he said I am working on it - will send you the video for first 30 seconds in some time. So I went back to work. But no response again for 3 hours. I called up again, he was outside, said he would definitely submit by 8PM. Around 7:30 PM, he pinged he cannot continue as timeline was too strict. I somehow convinced him to take some more time and get it done. In parallel, I started exploring AI tools out there. First attempt with Gemini 3, it was able to generate a close enough video for a scene. I was hopeful, so spent an hour writing the prompt for the entire video - defined every scene. But unfortunately it failed. Then I explored a bit more, and came across @HeyGen. It is honestly a game changer. I got 3 free trials. Copy pasted the same prompt and added the assets and boom - it generated EXACTLY what I wanted. Had to do a few minor edits myself, but the quality was great. Definitely a human editor probably could have done a better job - but humans are very unreliable 🙂 This is the message I left for him
