The story of Malaysia's 7 quarterfinals begins in 1997. A pair of promising teens, Chor Hooi Yee & Lim Pek Siah, became the first Malaysian WD pair ever to reach the quarterfinals of the World Championships. A year later, they became the first Malaysian WD to break into Top 20.

@BWFScore Finally, after 7 quarterfinals spanning 3 decades, Malaysia has a WD pair in the semifinals of the World Championships for the very first time! A historic breakthrough for a country that has only produced two Top 5 WD pairs in its entire history. This is only just the beginning.

The most difficult chapter is not the end of the book. While it can be the most demanding to make sense of, it's a formative part of the story. By striving to understand rather than dismiss or skip it, we may find it the most essential chapter that makes the entire book possible.

The question is: can we find the perspective, temperament, and tact needed to see the value in the struggle while it's happening, no matter how much it frustrates us or tests our patience? Can we allow it to challenge our rigid ideas of what progress and growth should look like?

The cycle is as relentless as it is predictable. Today, a few players are clearly struggling, just as Letshanaa did for 2-3 years. They face the same derision and condemnation she once endured. Will we ever learn, or are we destined to repeat this cycle of short-sighted outrage?

As she struggled through those years, she was mocked, ridiculed, dismissed, lambasted, likely by the same people who are now cheering her as an improved player. It's easy to applaud the transformation, but far fewer have the stomach to endure the messy, painful process of growth.

Terrific comeback in the decider from 6-12 down to win the match. If ever there's an XD pair that can challenge the usual front and back court roles, it's them. Joinne has an awesome-looking jump smash and good rear court presence, while Isyraf blitzes the front court with speed.

When a player's trajectory deviates from expected patterns or conventions, it is too often dismissed or condemned. It's far easier to judge a result than to perceive a process. We need fresher eyes that challenge our perception of what is really happening and what is yet to come.

Growth is rarely neat or predictable. Progress can be messy, inconsistent, unconventional, and uncomfortable. We may think we always know better, but in truth, do we? Are we seeing a decline, or are we simply witnessing a transformation we don't yet have the means to understand?

Letshanaa has been a transformed player since her big breakthrough earlier this year, when she defeated her first Top 15 opponent and reached her first World Tour semifinal. Yet, for 3 years prior, she struggled to find her footing, enduring 37 early exits and countless setbacks.

Among all the wins recorded by Malaysian WD over Top 10 opposition in the World Tour era, Japanese pairs have suffered by far the most. One pair in particular has been beaten the most often: Iwanaga & Nakanishi. Pearly & Thinaah and Pei Kee & Mei Xing have also defeated them.

This is the 13th consecutive edition of the Thomas Cup in which Malaysia has qualified for the knockout stage. Only 3 countries have longer consecutive streaks. In total, Malaysia has advanced beyond the group stage 19 times since the group stage was first introduced in 1984.
