CVE-2026-31431 (Copy Fail) is not your typical kernel bug.
This entire exploit… fits on one screen.
And it roots almost every Linux system since 2017.
No race condition.
No heap spray.
No kernel offsets.
Just a few syscalls:
• socket(AF_ALG)
• splice()
• sendmsg()
That’s it.
Behind the scenes, it quietly corrupts the page cache —
the in-memory version of system binaries.
It doesn’t touch the file on disk.
It rewrites the copy the kernel trusts.
Then runs it.
→ /usr/bin/su
→ becomes attacker-controlled
→ executes as root
A 732-byte Python script.
A 9-year-old bug.
Full system compromise.

I've just released a new version of typeagent, a Python library I've been working on since mid last year --more and more using Claude-- that implements memory for agents.
Not originally my idea, I mostly ported the TypeScript version by Steve Lucco and Umesh Madan. This release was improved a lot by Bernhard Merkle.
