Seriously care coordinator needs to be a career path. It doesn’t even need a doctor just someone as middle man that either is familiar with the conditions or willing to research so that the patients don’t have to. Does this exist and if so where do you access it #NEISvoid
Doc Mobley, MS, PhD (she/her)@AlexisSMobley

#NEISVoid how do tell your doctors you want everyone to sit down together and coordinate your care? I really need my PCP and rheum to come up with a coordinated treatment plan and would love for all of us to meet together but I also don’t want to be the middle man 1/

@breevmusic “working with disabled people” is not a job. it gives me absolutely no information about what it is you do. literally every job involves working with disabled people. do philosophy professors say “my job is working with white people” and refuse to elaborate? no.

“learn to ask for help” is such a poor way of saying “develop a completely new conceptual understanding of worthiness and work”

#DisabilityCultureIs... sustainability at EVERY level. how many abled activists do you know who preach sustainability, but work themselves or others to the bone?

if you have self esteem issues or trauma stemming from schooling, please know that what you experienced was ableism

i cannot believe how much of my life i spent saying things like “i hate being in public” or “i just don’t like activities” or “i‘m not passionate enough about anything to work full time and not want to die” and i didn’t think i was disabled????

“its all in your head” and “its coming from a problem in your brain” are, hypothetically, describing the same thing. the instinct to respond “its NOT in my head” is so valid, & often true. but i really do have mental illness, and i wish i saw more “so what if it was?” #NEISvoid

“i’m not disabled, i can still work” isn’t just vaguely capitalist. it means disabled people don’t gain the context they need to see the ableism in their workplace, school, etc until after they’ve already lost access. if working makes you abled, an employer can never be ableist.

it would be so easy for health class to teach kids about chronic illness, except that it would literally undermine the rest of the curriculum to admit that its not always your fault when your body feels bad.

having a job doesn’t disqualify you from saying you’re too sick or disabled to have a job. you can be working and unable to work at the same time. the standard for “unable to work” is not “no threat exists that would motivate you to try.”

i don’t know who needs to hear this but if someone didnt really need a mobility aid and decided to use one anyway for whatever reason, that would actually cause zero problems. it would not be harmful or wrong for literally any person to buy a cane and walk around with it.

care is not transactional, it’s generative. when i give you my care, i don’t leave with any less. if you care for me too, we both end up with more than when we started.

kids who don’t do their homework aren’t bad kids. they are disabled kids, abused kids, poor kids. no child is ever walking into your classroom empty handed just to piss you off. kids who “don’t give a shit” are kids who have learned that caring abt school just makes it hurt more.

a definition of lazy that is more like “someone who isn’t doing what i want them to when i feel so profoundly entitled to their compliance and so unwilling to recognize their humanity that i don’t even care to ask why,” which is a far cry from the character flaw it claims to be.

a great way to be less ableist is simply to introduce the thought “maybe this is way harder for them than it is for me” into your analysis of all situations.

doctors responding to “rude” patient behavior by withholding care is blatant abuse of power. its using their authority as a physician to make themselves the arbiter & executioner of who does or doesn’t deserve treatment. that is not their job. that’s cop shit and its disgusting.
