No ordinary professor is casually earning ₦800k-₦900k basic monthly salary the way you confidently claimed. Even many Vice Chancellors are not taking home that kind of money as straightforward salary. I live around academics. I interact with professors, senior lecturers, and university staff across different institutions in this country. So this is not Twitter speculation for me. Few months ago, a 2023 IPPIS payslip of a senior academic staff from a federal university was shared publicly showing around ₦452k gross earnings and about ₦339k net after deductions under CONUASS. Even with the recent salary adjustments, it still does not suddenly push regular professors to ₦900k take-home the way you are presenting it. Unless maybe you are talking about people combining consultancy, external supervision, adjunct teaching, or teaching across multiple institutions which, as you know, was heavily restricted during the PMB era. University salary structures in Nigeria are not hidden. They are public sector salary scales tied to grade levels, tax, pension, NHF, union dues, and years of service. So respectfully, your figures are far from the reality most Nigerian academics are actually living.
