“If I told you, you’d be jealous” was often John’s answer to the casual greeting “How are you doing?” He wasn’t being a braggart, just honest about the loving family he surrounded himself with, the impactful career he had making important contributions to the science of microscopy & spectroscopy, and the joy he felt every day sharing his knowledge with students and other scientists. When thinking about how to express who Prof. John A. Reffner was as a mentor, storyteller, collaborator, and friend, there’s only one thing I really can say… If I told you, you’d be jealous. He will be forever missed.
