Iowa State Education Association President Mike Beranek on the passage of private school voucher program legislation:

You can not claim to care about children and not value and support those who spend the most time with the largest number of children: teachers. You can’t claim to care about communities and not invest in what is at the center of the community: its schools.

VOUCHER UPDATE: The HF 68 (voucher legislation) fiscal note estimates state aid for public education would be reduced by $131 million in the first 4 years of implementation. This legislation diverts money from public education in Iowa. Plain and simple. #WeChoosePublicSchools
