@sightdelight @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss Generates image as an exports into a 40-50mb image AI does the same thing merges hundreds of images and compresses them into one which comes out at 10mb or a gb picture of if you can make it generate that large image

@Dungeon_MGR @JoeEngland6 @tferriss Not all artists feel threatened by this because we understand that the field will evolve. This tech is here to stay, and although there are weird ethical issues right now, that won’t be the case in a few years.

@SaireOfLight @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss I creates an image from noise based on a machine learning algorithm that can understand what certain concepts and styles mean. It doesn’t bash images.

@pumkinpatchwork @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss Obviously, but what I’m saying is that it’s already here. You can’t unmake it. We can only concern ourselves with the ethical aspects - what is okay and what isn’t. What we can’t do is delete it from the internet - it seems like that’s what most illustrators want.

@Vee_Shadow @JoeEngland6 @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss That’s one use case scenario. It opens other doors for photoshop artist, animators and 3d artists though. Using photoshop and AI you basically have endless possibilities. Same way you create collage art, except now you have even more control over the source materials.

What should happen is you use AI for a concept then make it as WIP/inspiration or hire an artist to complete your art... The stupid thing to happen is generate it then done lmao. If AI is act based on 10000 words why not become a novelist?

@mudbuckling @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss Not sure what you understand by stopping. The tech is here and it is widely available. No amount of complaining on the internet will make it disappear.

@Dungeon_MGR @JoeEngland6 @tferriss As I said I know plenty of artists who don’t feel threatened by AI, including myself. Just because I don’t agree with your views doesn’t mean I don’t respect “real artists”

@JoeEngland6 @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss Our demand for produce gave birth to factories which gave birth to the "factory worker" job. A machine was then made to emulate that job. Obviously, they didn't feed the people to the machine the same way art is fed to the AI - but the idea is the same.

@sightdelight @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss Except, again, the new machines in the automated factories didn't require the workers' blood and sweat to function. The whole idea was that they did the work without them. We're not just being phased out here, we're being actively exploited. All we want is the freedom to refuse.

@JoeEngland6 @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss I agree that we need to figure out the ethics surrounding this whole AI thing. I respect that. But the way that it is done is just so polarizing. Instead of talking about ethics, most "endangered" artists just want to outright bury AI. It's just not going to happen.

@sightdelight @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss Except we're not trying to change the fact of its existence. You're missing the point of our protests. We're trying to change how the technology is applied, so that the wishes of artists who don't want for their work to be appropriated can be respected. This is not unobtainable.

@JoeEngland6 @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss And yes, certainly. Low-budget clients with no vision that need an illustrator to follow their instructions will certainly prefer a tool that does exactly that. High quality projects that require an artists vision will always be a job for a "real artist"

@sightdelight @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss Forgive me, but everything you said is wrong. Even "real artists" need to eat. We were already undervalued, and if you think opportunistic clients won't leap at the chance to get a sloppy but shiny AI picture whistled up for pennies then you have a Hell of a rosy outlook.

@JoeEngland6 @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss I mean last time I checked art is a tough field to be in. Most artists I know aren't full-time artists, but rather create art in their free time. That's my case too, I'm a graphic designer and I create art as a form of self-expression. Being a full-time artist just became harder.

@Dungeon_MGR @JoeEngland6 @tferriss I don't feel like taking sides. I chose to accept what's happening and to look for the positives in the whole situation. I respect "real art" but that doesn't mean I have to hate "ai art" Cup half full is where I'm at.

@JoeEngland6 @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss I bet people in factories cried the same way during the industrial revolution. But look at us now, we adapted and life went on. Yes, jobs were lost, but new ones were created. The creative field is undergoing a similar change.

@JoeEngland6 @Dungeon_MGR @tferriss Although you're correct, my example still stands. It is what it is man. The technology is here, it's been developed and it's widely available for free. Nothing can change that.

@Dungeon_MGR @JoeEngland6 @tferriss Small-budget projects that can't afford an illustrator now have an option at least. In the past, some small illustrators could've gotten a gig like this but now the small budget would go into improving another aspect of the project.
