“They tell me ‘you gotta do straight hip-hop, it’s gonna translate better with your audience.’ Whatever the f*ck that means.”
At his ‘Cry Baby’ El Rey show Vince Staples shared some thoughts on his experiences in the music industry, namely the difficulties faced when wanting to experiment with different genres.

Just finished my first listen of the new Vince Staples album. It’s too early for a review but first reactions:
▫️Vince sounds incredibly inspired
▫️The grimy rock production is the perfect backdrop for the messages he’s conveying
▫️This is the album that people have been calling for in rap to speak on what’s going on right now in the world
▫️Vince is the most consistent rapper in the game. Every drop is quality
Excited to spin this back 🔁

Vince Staples speaks on not going on a press run “cuz ain’t nothing fuckin funny”
How the label attempted to suppress his creativity because DSPs would be mad “because you wouldn’t belong there”
Now that he’s independent he’s in full creative control. Cry Baby is the brilliant work that resulted.
Side note - this man really told the crowd to chill when they cheered at the mention of Big Fish Theory
