i think it's sad because my prior abt getting a tattoo associated w my lover is that it's a sign of commitment and permanence- the visibility of it, the difficulty of removal here it's being treated as a casual story everyone should just accept / applaud - but normalizing a tattoo from some random hookup makes it seem less special if i chose to get it done w my partner at some point in the future

Why do effective altruists mostly try to stop/prevent things? Examples: Prevent AI risk & biorisk, eliminate diseases, decrease the amount of factory farming… (They do try to create/build stuff, but mostly as instrumental goals) Shouldn't the ratio be 50-50, a priori?
