Let's have a talk about adidas Spezial
If you want
Or more specially, let's address how shoddily the range is presented and sold through the adidas stores and Confirmed App
Personal opinions about the designs, colours, and overall desirability of the collections change just like the seasons
Some of you find the latest SPZL range boring. Some of you find it pretty decent, and some of you find it neither here nor there. Basically, the same as what happens with every Spezial drop
But with the opening of the store in Manchester, after numerous mishaps at Carnaby Street, and with the Confirmed App centre to the frustrations, let's delve deeper than just whether it looks good or not
Every drop is only ever announced by curator Gary Aspden, in a coordinated effort with retailers and adidas themselves. In 2025, announcing premium ranges valued at thousands of pounds in RRP, with next to no notice, is there any need for it? More notice would mean it can be planned and saved for, as many people who wear the Mod Trefoil have done, and will continue to do so, using Klarna, Clear Pay, the credit card, any means necessary to secure 300 quid jackets on a weeks notice
It should be noted that it isn't just Spezial that drops on short notice, but it is carefully curated as we are often reminded
But the real issue lies with the store events and even just trying to buy the items
To attend a store event, you must use the Confirmed App to procure a ticket. Then arrive hours before time, to queue and give yourself a chance to purchase what you would like, as these events are hugely popular, and this is all seemingly normal in practice
Yet the stores have next to no stock for these events. You haven't much chance of getting what you would like
This is not helped by having "VIPs" walk up five minutes before time and are allowed access to the store by themselves, right in front of everyone else who has had to queue for hours, and maybe buying the only pair of that size, or smock in a certain size, but it's sparse pickings to begin with
This means someone who has had to get a ticket through the Confirmed App, (which knows what size the attendee is, plus could easily ask what items would be potentially bought), spends hours in a queue to miss out
A combination of terrible stock levels at the adidas store, and also favoured access to product
Then, when items are listed to go online, they are, of course, exclusive to the Confirmed App
Which is a laggy, buggy, diabolical mess of an app that is used to sell the most desired products the brand offers
There is no published list of stockists, and it changes with each seasonal offering, but it can be quite hard work shopping for SPZL pairs, made no easier by the brand
There are no reliable sizings charts produced any more, and coupled with no product being seeded (except to famous people who don't communicate with the riff raff that's expected to buy the range), means no sizing help is offered by the brand, or the team that curates it
Is it time for adidas Spezial to have its own accessible section on the general adidas App?
Where images can be loaded instead of relying on an Instagram account to put the word out. Where pit to pit sizes amongst other measurements could be added BEFOREHAND, so people have a clue what is the actual size of the garment they're being asked to spend hundreds of pounds on
There has to be evolution, surely. I have seen far too many people attending events, having to leave feeling frustrated and upset at both Fouberts Place in London and now the adidas Manchester store
It's a premium range inspired by history. Where will its place be remembered in history in the years to come?
Something you tapped on a screen for, or something you went and bought at an event
Give folk a chance, prioritise the store launch stockpiles
And fuck off the VIPs, you want to attend an event, get in the queue like everyone else
Let's have a conversation about adidas Spezial

@rl174 @hornchurchammer @The_Dassler I think the brothers who owned it retired and didn’t sell it on. I agree, their collabs were superb. You can still pick up the odd collab bit / Hanon originals on Vinted or eBay.
English

@SeanMichaelmar2 @The_Dassler @sevenstore Considering they did a collab, my team Aberdeen, I totally agree - bringing out the Todmorden for FC (considering it’s a grail piece for many) was absolute lunacy.
English

@The_Dassler Collaboration with football clubs are cheapening the brand, adidas confirmed are pretty much a waste of time to buy from, I got both jackets and the Grizedale from @sevenstore raffles which was well advertised and easy to use, the quality of the the Grizedale is exceptional 👍
English

@hornchurchammer @The_Dassler Hanon were based in my hometown of Aberdeen and the staff were amazing - they always had decent stock levels and there were probably 30-50 ‘hardcores’ at each SPZL launch - I really miss it. Murray, the Manager, would dish out coffees to folk in the queue.
English

@simmoabz @The_Dassler Fuck me mate, that’s dedication.
English

@The_Dassler I didn’t get the white one that I wanted as they’d sold out. It took so long to queue and pay that I missed my flight home and stayed in London for the night. The whole setup wasn’t great, and I definitely wouldn’t repeat it. 2/2
English

@The_Dassler Being a (in terms of others) a small collector, I got a ticket for the navy/white Todmorden launch at Carnaby Street, flew down from Aberdeen on the day of the event, queued from 3.30pm, was approx 8th in the queue and could only get the navy Tod in my size, the last one. 1/2

@simmoabz @endclothing @adidasoriginals @adiFamily_ Good to know. Did you buy them from Adidas initially?
English

Any ideas if Adidas can provide spares of the boot clips for the Grisedale? Arrived faulty from @endclothing and reckon there is next to no chance of an exchange due to availability? @adidasoriginals @adiFamily_ #spezial #adidas #adidasspezial

English

@Cocksy81 @endclothing @adidasoriginals @adiFamily_ I had the exact same problem with the Blondey Winterhills - adidas couldn’t offer a replacement and I couldn’t get an exchange. They ended up giving me a full refund and I took them to Timpson who did a decent job fixing them.
English

@anthony_hares @T_C__B_S_T @adiFamily_ Can’t see an option to do so on your profile pal, can you see on mine to PM me?
English

@anthony_hares @T_C__B_S_T @adiFamily_ Mate I think I’ve a pair of these in the house in a size 10 - just heading back from holiday, will check and send you some photos tomorrow
