It 'won’t be easy, and it won’t be quick. But when the cost of not acting is measured in lives, we can’t afford to fail.' - @DanielAndrewsMP This was the standard the govt set itself. Its failing this standard. From me on the Royal Commission reforms. theage.com.au/politics/victo…

Deeply disturbing Australia supports the illegal US/Israeli aggression against Iran in violation of the UN Charter. This is not lawful self-defence against an armed attack by Iran & the Security Council has not authorized it. Preventive regime change is an international crime
Anthony Albanese@AlboMP

Australia stands with the brave people of Iran in their struggle against oppression. For decades, the Iranian regime has been a destabilising force, through its ballistic missile and nuclear programs, support for armed proxies, and brutal acts of violence and intimidation. Iran directed at least two attacks on Australian soil in 2024. These appalling acts targeting Australia’s Jewish community were intended to create fear, divide our society and challenge our sovereignty. In response, Australia took the unprecedented steps of expelling Iran’s Ambassador, suspending operations at our embassy in Tehran, and listing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a state sponsor of terrorism. Our Government has sanctioned more than 200 Iranian-linked individuals, including more than 100 linked to the IRGC. With international partners, including the United States and the G7, we have called for the Iranian regime to uphold the human rights and fundamental freedoms of Iran’s citizens. These calls have gone unheeded. Instead, the regime has instigated a brutal crackdown on its own people leaving thousands of Iranian civilians dead. A regime that relies on the repression and murder of its own people to retain power is without legitimacy. It has long been recognised that Iran’s nuclear program is a threat to global peace and security. The international community has been clear that the Iranian regime can never beallowed to develop a nuclear weapon. The United Nations Security Council has reimposed sanctions on Iran for failing to comply with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and the International Atomic Energy Agency Board has formally declared Iran in non-compliance with its non-proliferation safeguards obligations. We support the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent Iran continuing to threaten international peace and security. Australian officials are closely monitoring this evolving situation. We continue to advise Australians do not travel to Iran and leave Iran as soon as possible, if it is safe to do so. Our ability to provide consular assistance in Iran is extremely limited. Given our concerns around security in the region, we have also upgraded Australia’s travel advice for Israel and Lebanon to Do Not Travel. Australians should leave now if it is safe to do so. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has activated its Crisis Centre to provide consular support to Australians in the region. Australians requiring urgent consular assistance can contact the Consular Emergency Centre 24/7 on 1300 555 135 in Australia or +61 2 6261 3305 from outside Australia.

There is no coming back from this. An Australian Premier who elevates a genocidal President above the people he represents has crossed a line should end his time in office.

Australia now has some of the democratic world's most draconian anti-protest laws. Today a man was arrested as an "agitator" simply for peacefully yelling "shame" in the direction of the visiting Israeli President, on the basis it may have "incited fear" #p59wpd" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">smh.com.au/national/nsw/h…

If you need some positive reinforcement then have a listen as David Nihill, the Irish comedian, talking about the Grapefruit Ladies 🩷 Many have shared it before it's the pick me up we all need

I'm not a lawyer, but can an expert shed some light on Premier Malinauskas comments about Randa Abdel Fattah in the video below? Seem defamatory. For all the talk about combating hate speech ... these remarks sound hateful, grossly offensive and damaging .
Antoinette Lattouf@antoinette_news

Wow. SA Premier Malinauskas, triples down on interfering with the Adelaide Writers Festival which then self imploded and was cancelled. Can you imagine linking an award-winning author who opposed genocide to two hateful, murderous men? Racism game is strong. 👇🏼

important interview with Louise Adler on #abc730 "I wonder where his [Premier Malinauskas] compassion and humanity and sensitivity was to Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah. And the fact that her work as a Palestinian writer, academic, esteemed award-winning writer, and the history that she carries with her, and the recent events where 70,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. Where is the shared humanity and the understanding and compassion for Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah?" Watch the full interview: abc.net.au/news/2026-01-1…

Yanis Varoufakis
Yanis Varoufakis@yanisvaroufakis·
Hello friends. I am Yanis Varoufakis stealing a few of your moments to tear up, in front of you, the invitation to appear in the 2026 Adelaide Writers’ Week to present my new book RAISE YOUR SOUL. I was looking forward to returning to Adelaide for what has been for decades a brilliant festival of books, ideas and debate. No longer. The Zionist Lobby destroyed it. By forcing the Board to disinvite fellow author Randa Abdel-Fattah. By identifying even Bob Carr, the former Premier of NSW and Australia’s former foreign minister, an individual “of concern”. By forcing the Director of Adelaide Writers’ Week, my marvellous, Jewish friend Louise Adler, to resign, they left me with no option other than to tear up my coveted invitation in public. As Louise says, friends and colleagues in the arts, beware of the future. They are coming for you.

By proud he means not talking about racism.
Alan Torrance@AlTorrance23

@malcolmconn @Uz_Khawaja It’s a debate he’s created in an Adam Goodes style of ‘woe is me’. The late great Andrew Symonds showed the world how to wear the baggy green with respect, gratitude and humility as a proud Australian brown man.
