Statement on the Passing of Kabelo Mlotshwa It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kabelo Mlotshwa, a beloved son of the South African jazz community, who left us this morning after a short illness. Kabelo was not only a friend and colleague to many, but also a passionate advocate for live jazz—dedicating his life to uplifting and celebrating this timeless art form. From his pivotal role at the iconic Orbit Jazz Club to his more recent work at The Jazzroom in Rosebank, Kabelo was instrumental in creating spaces where music could live, breathe, and bring people together. His unwavering commitment and love for jazz resonated through every artist he supported and every show he helped bring to life. While our hearts are heavy with loss, we also celebrate a life lived with purpose, rhythm, and deep cultural impact. Kabelo’s legacy will echo through every chord played on Johannesburg’s jazz stages. Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized. The Mlotshwa family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, and kindly asks for privacy during this difficult time. Details regarding the funeral and memorial will be shared once confirmed. Rest in power, Kabelo. Your love for the music lives on.
