In reality, they count for a small share of total bills and reflect growing energy demand and electrification, such as EV charging and heat pumps, which reduce fossil fuel use (and their associated costs) overall.

It is true that system costs - the total of energy, network, supplier, and policy costs paid by consumers (excluding VAT) – need to be factored in when assessing electricity prices. But these costs are often overstated or wrongly attributed solely to renewables.
