@ChrisBarringer Companies are gonna change as well. They're not gonna have as many employees. They're gonna be much smaller companies that will compete with bigger companies now. The whole way of working is going to change, so it's really hard to predict what that world will look like.

@simpleprogrammr Yeah I can see how that’s beginning to become reality. So when everyone can code at the same level bc it’s all about design just by promoting, how do FAANG lvl companies hire an employee? What will make a great company when everyone can code the same and no studies swe?

Software engineering isn't dying, it's just evolving. AI writes code now, but can't think in systems or understand users. The real edge is knowing what to build and being visible while doing it. Comment BUILD for my framework.

@ChrisBarringer It won’t be necessary. It will be a common skill that everyone will possess. Knowing how to describe what they would like to build.

@simpleprogrammr Question: how will swe who come in the next 15yrs learn to build systems when people can rely on AI, and there is no external pressure to learn? Is it realistic to believe people will put in the work to learn deeper than surface level?

I’m significantly older than you. I started coding in the late 60s. My current strategy is to not read any of the code written by my agents. That’s the only way I can take advantage of their productivity. What I do instead is to surround the agents with extreme constraints. Unit tests, gherkin tests, QA procedures, quality metrics, mutation testing, test coverage, and a plethora of others. In the end, I have very high confidence in the code they produce because they’ve had to run the gauntlet of all of my constraints and tests.

I am trying to use Claude to help me write something, but I just don't feel comfortable letting it edit my files. Does anybody else feel the same? If I am responsible for code, I NEED to understand it, psychologically if for no other reason. Started programming in 1983. Old?

@steipete Serious question: why not use OpenClaw for this? I try to use it for everything.

It's both amazing and painful to watch codex use browser + computer use to open Chrome, go to my PR, tap on comment and wrangle with the macOS picker - all TO UPLOAD AN IMAGE. GitHub has no API doesn't stop anyone. I let my codex run in VMs so they don't steal app focus.

@steipete Codex harness still seems to be very slow and jamming up channels. Is that expected still? Just trying to figure out if I should be using it or PI for a multi-agent system.

@simpleprogrammr The codex harness is still experimental, switch to dev channel, it works pretty well on latest.

This one fixes the depenency issues/slowness some had when installed via npm. Plugins are hard, worth it tho! Package is way leaner now, we moved [almost] everything into extensions! docs.openclaw.ai/plugins/manage…

@openclaw Is this using the PI harness or the Codex harness? I'm finding the Codex harness to be very slow.

The latest OpenClaw release is ~3.5x faster 🦞 We run end-to-end RTT tests against every published npm release, every 6 hours, over real message channels (here: Telegram, using the brand new bot-to-bot communication).
