Earlier, he Anchored bulletins at Essel's SITI Network TV Channel. Parallel to journalism, he is a classically trained and award winning musician. Veteran journalist Mr. Dhirendra Nath Chakravarty, the first batch alumni of IIMC, passed away today in Guwahati. 97-year old Chakravarty was undergoing treatment for some age-related ailments.
He had attended the first 6-month training for Govt PR Officers in 1967. He was then with the Government of Assam, later rose through the ranks, and went on deputation to the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong, and became its Director, I&PR. He took Voluntary Retirement in NEC in 1986 and joined the Government of Assam as Director, I&PR.
He had earlier begun his career as a sub-editor in The Assam Tribune in the early 1950s. Post retirement, Chakravarty served as editor of several Assamese newspapers, including Dainik Janambhumi, Dainik Asam, and Ajir Batori. He was editor of a weekly newspaper till his last day.

He brings experience across government, industry bodies, and media, having worked with the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, ASSOCHAM, NTPC, and NDTV Goodtimes. He is pursuing a PhD in Crisis Communication from SVGU, Ahmedabad. Recognized early as a National Child Scientist by the Dept of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, Utsav was awarded by former President Dr. A.P.J.
