@ChrisWernecke Hey Chris. Have you tried simuldocs.com? It's a better way to collaborate on Word docs then emailing them around Track Changes. We have a TON of academics like yourself using it for writing papers. Plus, it's free :)

@AndrewRumbach Hey Andrew. Check out simuldocs.com. It's a version control & collaboration tool for Word that is an alternative to Track Changes. You can set your display name to whatever you want. Plus, it's free :) Happy to jump on a call and show you how it works if you'd like

@RochfordElle Hey Elle. You should check out simuldocs.com. It's a version control tool for Microsoft Word. Each time you have a writing session, it saves it as a new version and displays how many words were deleted or added. It's free too :) Let us know if we can help at all

@ekaroune @egelz519 Can we jump in here and suggest simuldocs.com? It's a collaboration tool for Microsoft Word that many academics use. Contributors can work in their own version and then 'push' it back into your master version, where you can approve changes line by line. It's free too :)

@egelz519 Agree that google docs is a good way to go - can give different contributors different access such as editing or suggestions. Also has version control. MS word can be a nightmare to deal with multiple comments. You could also consider overleaf if you prefer/know LaTex.

i have no more laughter, no more feelings. inside of my brain there are only colorful bubbles and lines, not coincidentally resembling Microsoft Word Track Changes

@arichardson_phi We agree Alan. Have you checked out simuldocs.com? It's a version control & collaboration tool for Word that is a good alternative to Word's Track Changes feature. We have thousands of other Professors like yourself using it. Plus, it's free :)

@kjw_chiu @gelbach @FabItMart @causalinf Hey Kenneth. Just jumping in here as we get all excited when someone talks about GIT and documents. You should check out simuldocs.com. It's GIT for Word documents. Allows people to work simultaneously, keeps track of all changes, etc. And it's free!

@gelbach @FabItMart @causalinf I used LaTeX with CVS (precursor to git, simpler, but lacked some useful features) back in the day. Would allow a group of authors to edit till the last minute, as long as we took reasonable care to coordinate so as not to work simul. on the exact same paragraph at the same time.

@JoyceReynoldsW1 @safewrite Hey Joyce. Saw you mentioning Master documents and thought we might jump in. You should try simuldocs.com. It's a version control and collaboration tool for Word where you can create a Master document and then seperate 'child' documents and compile. It's free too :)

No judgement here if you like Scrivener. I tried it and prefer working in MS-Word. Anyone else feel like I do about Scrivener? #amwriting

@DrBreaky The bit on equations shows LaTeX winning ☺️ Three thoughts: they don’t mention is version control .. how do you keep track of versions in word? Size of word documents: I find word is unstable for big docs with figs Is this just a fn of spell check?

Paper on why Word is so much better than LateX, concludes with quite damning, "LaTeX users were slower than Word users, wrote less text in the same amount of time, and produced more typesetting, orthographical, grammatical, and formatting errors" journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

@aaronklaassen Hey Aaron. May we suggest trying out simuldocs.com? It's GIT for Word, but with a simple interface a non-engineer can understand. Solves that exact 'Doc_v3_final_FINAL' problem. Plus, it's free!

@The_Cee_Bee @AdamsDrafting I respectfully disagree. For “version control” reasons, send your markups as a PDF together with a clean Word version on which the other side can comment.

I'm marking comments on a contract for the edification of y'all. Should I use comments on a Word document or comments on an annotated PDF, with numbered highlights on one page and the associated comments on the next page?

Dear #Googlers, I live with one of you now. I get it. You hate @Microsoft word documents. You think they're cumbersome and frustrating. But you're wrong. Word docs are better. I want proper version control. Please stop making me use Google docs. That is all. @Google
