Interestingly, both earthquakes happened at the intersection of the same tectonic plates (the Eurasian and Arabian plates).

All these pictures from Turkey and Syria throw me back to 2003 when as a kid I witnessed a devastating earthquake happened in Bam (near my hometown Kerman), killed many ppl and wiped out families.
