A pregnancy termination outside of the permitted medical regulation and supervision beyond 24 weeks is still illegal.
The amendment that has been passed changes nothing at all about the existing law, which has been in place since 1967 law.
The amendment changes the status for the pregnant woman involved from criminal to civil offender. Thus the woman concerned will not be arrested, charged and prosecuted and will not receive a criminal record.
Instead, treated as a civil offender, the circumstances will be investigated and an appropriate civil remedy will be applied, which is likely to include a period of support for mental health.
Anybody else who may have been involved in procuring that termination remains liable to criminal charges.

As an MP I’d bloody hope you understand this is about protecting women in desperate situations from criminalisation, & that legal abortion remains very strictly limited & regulated, authorised by 2 doctors up to 24 weeks.

Full-term abortion hasn't been legalised, it has been decriminalised. I would expect an MP to know this very important distinction and not spread misinformation on the internet.
A good parent doesn't weaponise pictures of their children to spread lies on the internet, or kick women in the head, James.

I dont think being overly emotional is particularly helpful when it comes to matters of the law but for the first time since becoming an MP I am genuinely sad about what parliament has done. I am sad because I know what the consequences will be. I am sad because I know nervous first time parents might give way to doubt and opt out of parenthood and how the reality of that means they'll be denied the greatest gift life will ever give them and instead inherit a life of monstrous guilt. I am sad because, now, healthy babies will be destroyed. I am really sorry that the UK has legalised full term abortion. For what it's worth, I voted NO. I am going to squeeze my children a little tighter and thank the universe a little more than normal this morning. You cannot become unpregnant. You just become the parent of a child you killed. That is the reality of life. We must face it. My babies.
