@sinfulxyz @captgouda24 You're looking at total numbers. You need to look at percentages to make some useful sense of it. Their net margin in 2025 was 2.7%. So if they sold their insurance at cost with no profit, policies would be 2.7% cheaper. That's what I'm talking about here.

It is difficult to do research about healthcare without coming away thinking that insurance companies are heroes.

@dejgarate @captgouda24 This is a 5-year low btw. In the past they paid around 24% in corporate taxes. Now they pay less in taxes than the average American, while using city, state, and federal rebates and programs to reclaim what they did pay in taxes. Insufferable defending this lol

@dejgarate @captgouda24 $14.7 billion in profit and they paid $1.9 in taxes last year. This doesn't include the rebates and incentives they receive after the fact that reduces their tax burdens and liabilities.

@dejgarate @captgouda24 Non-profit doesn't mean they don't make money, its a classification on how they handle and report income, with many non-profit companies intentionally increasing losses to offset what they pay their higher earners. Insurance companies do this too, lol.

@dejgarate @captgouda24 I think you're confusing the direct cost from insurance companies with the agreements they have with hospitals (who are a massive part of the problem). Insurance companies form pacts with hospital boards and medical companies to increase costs.

@sinfulxyz @captgouda24 Income equals expenditure. They are one and the same. Look into who are the super earners in healthcare, it's not the insurance companies. Many are not-for-profits like Kaiser and Blue Cross Blue Shield, and the for-profits have about 2-5% profit margins.

The wages of doctors and nurses come from the cost of other things like schooling and housing, which had been inflated. etc
