It's not just that Disney has cancelled the deal, it's that OpenAI has decided to shut down Sora completely. With the tool's disappearance, the $1 billion agreement signed in December 2025 (which was going to allow users to create Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar videos) has been technically left up in the air or canceled in its operational part. OpenAI surprised everyone today by announcing that they are "discontinuing all efforts in video AI models," which includes shutting down the Sora platform.

Disney has cancelled their deal with OpenAI. They planned to invest $1 billion into the company and let Sora have access to AI generate videos of characters from Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars. (Source: hollywoodreporter.com/business/digit…)
