@aniabi26 Maryam is not as innocent as you imply. She is so malicious that she deliberately provokes Alia with her past with Jahan.

Ep. 59 is a masterpiece 🏆🥇: the dialogues are exceptional, and the close-ups of Cihan's and Alya’s expressions and emotions – as they react subconsciously to their inner conflicts whilst believing, on a rational level, that they can control everything – are wonderful. Cihan continued to play both sides with Meryem and Alya, using emotional gaslighting and emotional coercion on both of them, as well as feeding his ego, etc. He was ruthless with Meryem (a classic manipulator’s move) when, after leading her to believe he was available to her, he told her that "He had been clear on this point, namely that she belongs to his past". Meryem’s responses to both Cihan and Alya are spot on: they show self-awareness and maturity ("The past deserves respect"). And if it isn’t faced, it returns to the present in an overwhelming wave. Cihan and Alya are lying to themselves. As for Cihan, it’s not because, as Alya said, "Meryem still loves you". Cihan knew perfectly well that Meryem still loved him; otherwise, he wouldn’t have started any triangulation, but because he isn’t yet ready to face his past, specifically how badly he behaved towards Meryem back then. Alya is the same. On a rational level, she thinks she is mature and superior to Meryem. She isn’t. She is in regression precisely because she didn't want to face her past. They both did it unconscounsly. Their body protected them. But now her emotions and body language betray her. The scenes showing the emotions on her face and her body language represent reactions at the unconscious level, but both of them know they are suffering inside, though they don’t know why. They will find out as soon as the transition ends, when they start thinking a lot and asking questions. #UzakŞehir #CihAl

Ep. 59 onwards. Just a recap of what will happen in episodes 59 through 62. We are in the 5° phase of regression, the “Restructuring & settling” one, in which Cihan's and Alya’s inner conflicts will surface into their conscious minds so they can understand and address them. Cihan has conflicts with Alya, as well as with Boran, Meryem, Sadakat and Azem; Alya has conflicts with Cihan, Boran, Meryem and Sadakat. In this phase, there will also be many “revelations”—that is, missing pieces in each of their stories, memories of which they know only one version. Pay attention in ep. 59 to the emotions on Cihan's and Alya’s faces, their body language, and how often they pause to reflect, even when alone. If you want Cihan and Alya to be happy, they must resolve their conflicts with each other as a couple, but also with the people from their past. This TV series has a very precise and well-defined central theme right from ep. 1. This series is proceeding exactly as expected 💪👏. #UzakŞehir #CihAl

Nare, Alya’yı yeni evinde ziyarete gidiyor. Cihan & Meryem konusunda net konuşuyorum: Aralarında AŞK yok, olmayacak da. Alya, Meryem meselesinde sadakatten hesap soracak — ve evet, SONUNA KADAR haklı. 👑 Daha önce demiştim, yine söylüyorum: Meryem hapisten çıkıyor. Feyyaz son sahnede diziye giriş yapıyor. Alya yüzüğü değil ama kolyesini çıkarıyor. Ve asıl olay… Cihan sarhoş halde Alya’nın kapısına dayanıyor. #UzakŞehir #CihAl

Ep. 55. My first impressions of Meryem. I really like Meryem so far. For various reasons: -because when Sadakat entered their cell, she didn’t jump up to kiss her hand (whether she recognised her or not), even though she’d heard a new person come in and the others greet her and show her respect. This gives me the impression of someone who doesn’t flatter; -she is respectful and polite towards Sadakat, yes, but she doesn’t trust Sadakat very much and, above all, she is frank with her. She gave me the impression that she knew it was Sadakat who had told her father to leave Turkey and not to be found in Germany on two separate occasions when Meryem said, "It seems that a person does not return to where they fled, but to where they are destined". So much so that Sadakat felt she had to defend herself and say something to patch things up: a phrase along the lines of "Events happen by chance’, instead", but it was to prevent Cihan and the others from realising what she was referring to. This explains why Sadakat didn’t want her as a daughter-in-law and also why Sadakat hasn’t managed to manipulate her in the past or to team up with her against Cihan, because otherwise Meryem would already know what to say or not say in front of her. For example, she wouldn’t have thanked Cihan for the dress in front of Sadakat and the others. She also said several times that she wouldn’t stay in Mardin once she got out of prison, and she seemed honest to me. She doesn't seem a manipulative person with bad intentions to me, in short. Plus, she seemed genuinely in love with Cihan and has respect for him and Alya. If she remained that way, I would be happy and it would be consistent with the plot and the themes explored in this series. #UzakŞehir #CihAl

Ep.55. US. Who did Cihan lie to: Meryem or Alya? And, above all, why? Ep. 55 Cihan to Muzzafer: "I don't want to hear 'I haven't found nothing'" (repeated 3 times) Ep. 24 "I don't know!" Ep.9 (Ahmet Kaya's song) "How will you know why I've been running away from?" Ep. 55 (Ahmet Kaya's song) "Kum Gibi" (transl. "Like sand") Ep.55.Cihan: Whoever is responsible must solve the problem. Ep.55 Meryem: The only thing that hasn't changed is your heart, your goodness. You are the person next to whom one feels safe. That will never change. Let me say that this episode, imo, is much more than a masterpiece because the effects of the behaviour of narcissistic parents on the behaviour of their children and daughters-in-law, grandchildren and so many other behaviours and dynamics in highly dysfunctional families have been highlighted even more. As I have written several times in my posts, children who grow up with a narcissistic parent live in an emotionally unsafe environment, in which they are not only unable to express their emotions, thoughts, tastes, etc., but are mocked and scolded if they do. In addition to this, the environment is unsafe because the children are like living on a minefield because the narcissist tests them 24 hours a day to demand their loyalty or love for him/her. In reality, those tests are traps because the narcissist’s goal is not to allow that child to complete those tests but to make him/he suffer, reproach them, destroy them. And how do narcissists do that? By manipulating the narrative, the information they give them and others. Thus, growing up in such an environment means constantly experiencing an alternation of crumbs of (fake) love and judgments of disappointment from their parent(s) and rejections from their mother, (fake) smiles and punishments, etc. And, therefore, in order not to suffer 24 hours a day, Cihan (or any child) tries to foresee the tests, to understand if they are traps or not, to intercept mum's real intentions, her mood to understand what to say or do or not do when he is with mum or not. What is, indeed, more fearful and painful than disappointing one's mother (or parents) for fear of losing her love? Cihan has a room full of stopped clocks and at a standstill in his room and an hourglass, another hourglass also on his desk in his office; he keeps the objects on his desk in his flat in a precise order that no one can change. These are signs that Cihan has developed a fear of not being in control of those tests and, therefore, by extension, of future events and their occurrences: by stopping the clocks, Cihan has created the illusion that he can 'stop' time, i.e., events and, therefore, metaphorically, control them. That illusion is also a reflection of the outward image he has constructed of himself. For a person like Cihan, the most terrible sentence to accept and let alone say to someone is “I don't know”, “I can’t protect you because I don't have data to make up my mind about the whole situation”, “I don't have a plan yet”. “Not knowing something” exposes him to devastating psycho-physical destabilisation; let alone confessing it to others: not knowing, for Cihan, means not only not being 'able' to foresee events but being exposed to judgement, criticism, rejection by others. That is why in ep. 24, which is long after ep. 18-19 of the "Tek ask", there is the scene in which Cihan, pressed by Alya, is at first unable to answer Alya's questions because he had no answers as to who was chasing Deniz/who k!lled Boran and, then, suddenly, he brings up one of his greatest fears and shouts "I don't know!" (see video) and starts crying. And when he sees that Alya hugged him instead of scolding and rejecting him, he thanks her because, for him, Alya is a new world where vulnerability, fragility, emotions and “Not knowing” is not a mistake, a weakness to be ashamed of and condemned, as his mum/a narcissist has always done. For the same reason, in ep.55, Cihan repeats three times to Muzzafer "I don't want to hear 'I haven't found out anything'". "I found no information" means not being able to predict events, what to do but also being exposed to the judgement of others. That is why unexpected events send him into a tailspin. For example, in ep. 22, during the kite festival he freezes and remains rigid for several minutes (his body has activated the survival mechanism called “freeze”, indeed) when Alya hugs him coming up behind him because he did not (for)see her. The loss of his father was one of those many events that he had not foreseen nor the refusal of Meryem's father to marry his daughter nor not finding Meryem in Germany. These events were not only painful in themselves but for Cihan they were experienced as a defeat, as a failure, something to be ashamed of: -I failed to protect my father -I was rejected by another father (Meryem's) -I couldn't find Meryem (twice) - I failed to marry Meryem. And it was even more painful and frustrating for Cihan because he had Meryem’s address, i.e. he had the information in his hand (the information that, by analogy, Muzzafer did not find in ep.55 on Vurgun). So, he was certain that the event would go as he had thought. Having been anticipated by someone else (the unexpected) and twice, destabilised him even more and made him even more ashamed. And, after not finding Meryem after chasing after her, Sadakat surely criticised him or minimised his pain: narcissists take advantage of these moments of extreme vulnerability to be even more ruthless than they are on a daily basis. All this has contributed to confirming that already fragile self-image of a child or person who fails, who is incapable of foreseeing events, protecting his loved ones and solving problems either for himself or for others. Living in a family with a narcissistic mother with the crumbs of loving was, then, a further confirmation, according to Cihan, that he loves but cannot be loved. Having made this important premise and before answering the post's question, I will summarise Cihan and Alya's situation in ep.19 when Cihan told the chronology of events to Alya. Cihah had realised that Alya had feelings for him but was afraid to admit it when he found out about Meryem. She only said, "I was curious", indeed; but Cihan had no certainty that Alya would, however, want to start a romance with him one day. When he said "Tek ask" he did not mean, as Alya interpreted it, "I only loved and still love Meryem and I don’t love you" but, at the same time, Cihan feared that if he made it clear to her that he was in love with her, she might reject him. And now we come to the question of the post. Who did Cihan lie to: Meryem or Alya? To Alya. For various reasons, imo: -not to lose Alya -to protect one of his many fragile self-images -not to break down psycho-physically, adding more shame and pain on top of the ones he already feels from his childhood growing up with a narcissistic parent. In many cases, Cihan controls and limits Alya's choices by masking that control with jealousy, caring, love, but, in this case, it is not a lie to “control” the narrative in order to manipulate Alya, as a narcissist would do, but it is dictated by fear of rejection. + #UzakSehir #CihAl

I said it ….. “what could happen and what would make the writing stronger is Alya asking Cihan immediately. It doesn’t have to be a jealousy driven dramatic way, but in a controlled way. This change in approach would show that she’s no longer afraid of the truth, that she sees herself as someone who has the right to ask and that she trusts Cihan enough” #UzakŞehir #Cihal
Gangan@ganganstories

With Mine, Alya reacted instinctively. She saw something , felt hurt, and withdrew instead of confronting. That moment was about insecurity and unfamiliarity with Cihan’s world, she didn’t yet fully trust what they had, or her place in it since there had been no confession and both were hiding their feelings. If Alya is to witness similar with Meryem, it’s a completely different emotional context. Meryem isn’t a random woman, she’s tied to Cihan’s past and Alya already knows the history there. But, most importantly, Alya now understands Cihan’s love on a much deeper level. So if Alya were to react the same way again (running away, shutting down), it would feel like no character progression. To me, what could happen and what would make the writing stronger is Alya asking Cihan immediately. It doesn’t have to be a jealousy driven dramatic way, but in a controlled way. This change in approach would show that she’s no longer afraid of the truth, that she sees herself as someone who has the right to ask and that she trusts Cihan enough even while physically distant. Instead of Alya being the one who runs, Cihan is the one who has to explain. #UzakŞehir x.com/_Angel966/stat…
