you have amazing content and we know you can articulate these things very well…please don’t make us read the ai version with this nonsensical repetition in the name of emphasis…serve us the raw (messy) version, the one we can relate to

following those wins (and $$$) Kenyans are racking up all over the world, the labor/development peeps should fund proper longitudinal research project that looks at investing in youth sports (infrastructure and everything that goes into making it a viable profession) vs labor immigration in Kenya (mostly the government sponsored initiatives…i started a thread on this last year). it would be interesting to see the extent the two options - putting money into sports infrastructure - pushing the government-sponsored labor export deliver in terms of variables like - remittances (most of those who take up the opportunities do it for their families), - mental health and wellbeing (the human cost which has been widely documented/could involvement in sports or proximity to infrastructure act as a barrier/preventative measure), - individual and community development, plus overall impact on GDP. to be sure, not everyone will get into sports/will want to…but if there is an entire industry waiting with the potential of creating direct and indirect opportunities that would reduce the brain/labor drain… it is worth exploring, and maybe the structure will be better at rewarding people instead of the pick and choose state house invitations and awards.

i need the sports, tourism and investment dockets in Kenya to up their collaboration and strike this (sport dominance) iron when it is still hot, and before someone else does. we currently have someone at wnba, and are slowly getting ‘notoriety’ in ‘non traditional’ sports (darts, skating), while maintaining the lead in ‘traditional’ ones (marathons) where we are still breaking world records. these dockets need to jump on the wave shamelessly and promote the country as a sports hub, while creating a pathway to promote local talent, refurbish training facilities, and of course throw in mental health tools and financial literacy for sports people.

someone pass a law that prohibits couples from starting podcasts…we don’t need to know all these things about your relationship…and this often. while we are at it, someone else do a research project on how “strong relationship” signifiers went from wearing marching/color coordinated clothes for special occasions, to these couple podcasts where people share things no one else should be privy to… also what is the impact of couples learning about each other/how to navigate their union through the lens of public opinion instead of learning and growing together in the intimacy of our homes?

Emerging Leaders Foundation-Africa
56 women from Kajiado and Kiambiu came together to mark the close of the Buzz Women Inspiration Fellowship. Beyond the graduation, one thing stands out; safe spaces matter. When women feel heard, they show up differently. We’re already seeing this translate into action; stronger group dynamics, better decision-making, and women stepping into leadership within their communities. @SelfShakti

definitely want to visit the dea museum + need to go for another narcan/naloxone use training (images from a 2023 training) - it is a first aid/cpr type training for opioid overdose + you get a free nasal spray. - narcan/naloxone is an emergency/first aid ‘tool’ to reverse an overdose administered through the nostril (nasal spray). - it is an antagonist (bind and jam), as opposed to opioids like fentanyl that turn the key and activate through pain relief/euphoria/slowed breathing = overdose signs/brain damage/death) - the ‘jam’ blocks/reverses the activation, returning breathing to normal - have someone call 911 as you administer…watch them and repeat with a new nasal spray if they don’t respond//they might be disoriented or experience withdrawal when they come to + relapse to feed the withdrawal #FentanylAwarenessDay #NarcanSavesLives #justknow #OpioidAwareness #OnePillCanKill

today (april 29) was/is national fentanyl awareness day...some notes for my addiction science binder 1. there are two national fentanyl awareness campaigns listed on U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) website, - 4/29: national fentanyl awareness day founded in partnership with song for Charlie, a national non-profit started by parents who lost their son, charlie, to a single counterfeit pill. their website is a wonderful resource for anyone looking to learn about fentanyl (from an awareness pov) - check out songforcharlie.org - 8/21: national fentanyl awareness and prevention day "established by facing fentanyl and affected families across the country to remember the lives lost to illicit fentanyl poisoning and to educate the public about the ongoing danger of this crisis" - check out facingfentanylnow.org 2. the DEA museum in arlington, virginia "collects, preserves, and shares the stories of America’s connection to drugs, including public policy, federal drug law enforcement, and the work of drug enforcement administration employees around the world" - museum.dea.gov

created a rough timeline to keep up with all the material I have gone through so far (us based//will update as I go through more stuff) 1. 1960s: dr paul janssen’s fentanyl invention in 1959 as a synthetic opioid for severe pain relief, it became the preferred alternative to morphine (50-100 potency, a little dose does wonders) worldwide including US, (summer of love and lsd/counter culture somewhere here) 2. 1970s: pablo escabor (had to figure out where he fit into the whole narrative) and the cocaine (plant based - coca plant) boom plus nixon public enemy rhetoric 3. 1980s: crack epidemic, crack baby narratives, reagan’s war on drugs = mass incarceration (also enter el chapo)…also AIDs epidemic (needles/heroin, sex for drugs) 4. 1990s: purdue pharma marketing oxy as a safe, less addictive option fueling 1st wave of opioid epidemic (philly’s kensington known for high purity heroin/nicknamed walmart of heroin) 5. 2010s: height of crackdown on prescription opioid makes it hard to obtain. replaced by heroin (semi synthetic, chemically modified opium poppies…again enter el chapo) that is cheaper = 2nd wave 6. 2013: fentanyl makes a ‘comeback’ but as an illicitly manufactured product (not the 1959 dr janssen brand), from china/then via mexico. at first it is added to heroin to increase heroin’s potency = 3rd wave then it moves to 4th wave where it is a polysubstance (mixed with other compounds like tranq, sometimes pressed into pills to look like prescription drugs) 7. 2025: trump’s weapon of mass destruction rhetoric
