Native American tribes actually prospered thanks to the African slave trade. They were hired by Europeans to catch runaway African slaves and made lots of money doing that. The tribes became slave holders and slave traders as well. Also, when the Civil War came, the Indians fought on the side of the South in an effort to keep slavery legal. Even when the whites abolished slavery, the Indians refused to end African slavery until they were forced by white people, and even then they refused to give their enslaved Africans citizenship in their Indian territories.
