Insanely disproportionate punishment for an offence that we didn’t benefit at all from. Silly from the club to even get involved in it, but at the same time never ever should be expelled. EFL selling 40,000 tickets before they made a judgement is questionable as well. #saintsfc

@henrywinter The point around other sports is an interesting one. The most obvious and common comparison will be to rugby. I think the biggest thing that the comms would show is how football refers interpret the laws, whilst in rugby it is a straight application. Be great to hear process

At some point, they will have to play the audio of the decision-making process live, the communication between referee and VAR. IFAB against, though. But why shouldn’t match-goers - who fund the game - and viewers - who fund the game - know exactly what’s going on in the game? It would increase transparency for a start. It would engage fans (maybe enrage) rather than keeping them fiddling their thumbs, impatient for a decision. It works in rugby union (TMO) and cricket (DRS) - admittedly sports with different rhythms and volatility in responses. It might put additional pressure on officials, but it’s a mess currently and fans deserve a more transparent process.
