COVID19 is exacerbating societal fault lines+ inequalities, and the ecological crisis requires fundamental social transformations. Social sciences are increasingly marginalized/under attack; academia more and more characterized by high workloads, precarity and underfunding. 2/10

ESA membership contributions should go to a transparent+democratic association characterized by inclusivity+ accessibility of its events, publications and membership, especially for scholars in marginalized and/or precarious positions. 5/10

Achieving this requires a professional, well governed and robust organization! ESA has to be a good employeer with respect for employee rights + professional working environment; with a well-functioning office+staff who can draw on and develop their skills and expertise 4/10

I am convinced of ESA’s potential to make a difference across Europe and beyond, despite formidable societal challenges. We need to be outspoken, influential, and proactive advocates for the interests of sociology, and social science generally. 3/10

I’ve been off Twitter for a week since the death of my friend and colleague David H J Morgan. So glad I saw him, and that we did some work together, in early March. I just can’t imagine the sociological landscape without him, he was just so special academically and personally.
