Unlimited Refund: Critical PSN Refund Abuse via Family System – Financial and Security Risk
The reason this abuse is possible is that when someone purchases a game through a child account, no transaction is recorded in the parent account. Likewise, when a refund is issued, there is no record of the refund in the parent account either.
This means that neither the purchase nor the refund appears in the parent account’s history, making it impossible for Sony Support to detect any abuse linked to that account.
To exploit this loophole, users create child accounts with a birthdate set to just one day before turning 18. After purchasing and activating games on a PS5 and switching the console to offline mode, they immediately request refunds the next day — once the account is technically considered an adult.
As a result, someone can create unlimited child accounts under the same parent account and repeatedly request refunds — without being detected.
This is a serious and large-scale abuse of the system that requires immediate attention.
