@cmsholdings True, but my point is tax benefits alone won’t solve the birth rate issue. I mean there are cultures where families are dirt poor and still have 6+ kids.

Not even, 1.2M is the average expected value that parents would get if they had invested the money rather than spent it on a child. The median household income in the U.S. is roughly $84k, or $1.5M over 18 years. If it cost $1.2M most households wouldn’t even be able to afford one kid. The average cost is somewhere between 300 and 400k. And that doesn’t include college.

@slatersanter You mean the kid costs that much to raise? If so 1.2mm over 18 years or 21 years is doable

@cmsholdings I think increased tax benefits would likely work in the short term, but longer-term most people will weigh the financial reality of having children and realize that they simply can’t afford them.

@cmsholdings The opportunity cost of each kid is around $1.2M, they’d have to have pretty steep tax benefits to cover that.

@Figue_me @river0x Uni fees alone are ~6B. Then you have every other DEX (~3B), all lending protocols (~4B), LST protocols (~6B), onchain derivatives, and a few smaller categories. 20B is actually undercounting because I'm only looking at the top 100 DeFi protocols.

Hot tip: don't trust a piece of doombait research that doesn't even spell "cumulative" correctly The number of lending protocols that have generated more than $500M in fees you can fit on one hand There is no +ve delta on hack value / DeFi fee gen, I love you

@slatersanter @Ian_Unsworth How does it count value? What did you do for locked token emissions? E.g GMX locked tokens what does it report value as?
