MIND GAMES - THE EVOLUTION DOCUMENTARY. Part One: In this never-seen-before home video footage from February 1970, we see and hear John Lennon writing an early demo version of 'Mind Games’ - then called ‘Make Love Not War' - on his favourite composing piano in their upstairs bedroom at Tittenhurst Park, their home in Ascot. The song already contains the melody and chords, the ‘make love not war’ refrain and the ‘love is the answer’ chorus. This very short fragment of footage was found amongst other home video materials whilst conducting a deep search in the archives for content for the MIND GAMES ULTIMATE COLLECTION Box Set audio and book, along with the original (also never-seen-before) lyrics for the song. John Lennon: vocal , upright piano. Tittenhurst Park, Ascot, February 1970. Part Two: John is in the studio at Record Plant on 4 Aug 1973, with Yoko and all the musicians, where he recorded seven takes of ‘Mind Games’. Three of these were complete. Included here are excerpts from Take 3 where Yoko is obviously helping John out with production duties from the control room. John Lennon: vocal, Clavinet. David Spinozza: electric guitar. Ken Ascher: piano, organ, reed organ. Gordon Edwards: bass. Jim Keltner: drums. Recorded at Record Plant, NYC, 4 August 1973. Part Three: At the start of the exploration of the Master multi-track (Take 2) we hear John referencing his starting pitch on the piano over the solo slide guitar and Mellotron, playing their repeating three-note riff. This journey through all the different parts of the multitrack highlights all the different instruments recorded for the final mix. Additional overdubs added to the Master ready for the mix on 23 August 1973: John Lennon: Mellotron, slide guitar, maracas, tambourine.
