The idea that you think they’re being dishonest because they don’t report it the way you want is strange and says more about you than them. I could not care less. I attend church when I want to. I don’t attend church when I don’t want to. I’m happy my church considers me a member regardless of my attendance.

I know how different businesses set up their legal structure. The LDS church is officially defined as a corporation. This isn’t hearsay, it’s literally how they are legally set up. Except they also get the “church” exemption which means they pay no taxes. A corporation that pays no taxes and is worth billions. Blows my mind.
