Recently someone posted a book w/ narrow margins. Here's another, but I'm fine with it b/c it has one of the most readable fonts I've ever encountered. And it's filled with stories that can only be described as absurd realist set in Slovakia during and after WWII. @KarolinumPress

On International Translation Day, we are delighted to introduce our collaborator in the Modern Slovak Classics series, the London-based @JuliaSherwood Julia and her husband Peter Sherwood together translate from five languages in total. She is not only active as a translator but also as a tireless promoter of Slovak and Czech literature abroad. Just yesterday, Julia launched our new title at Hatchards Piccadilly in London — the English edition of The Last Thing by Leopold Lahola, which she co-translated with Peter Sherwood. As Julia said: “Lahola is almost forgotten in Slovakia and virtually unknown abroad, although his harrowing stories rank among the most powerful literary portrayals of the Holocaust. I hope that the publication of his stories in English will pave the way for further translations into other languages and will help Lahola’s work to become a part of the canon of world literature.” Find more about our translators on the blog: karolinum.cz/en/blog/anketa…

These are some of the books that the new presidential administration is trying to kill. Please help us publish them despite @DOGE's termination of our @NEHgov grant! If you wish to help us, please consider one of the following: 1. Donate yourself if you can: community.alumni.harvard.edu/give/42361308 2. If your company/employer has a social responsibility program, invite them to support our work at this time—they can contact me directly for details. 3. If you know someone who is wealthy enough to meaningfully support us, please ask them to do so—I'd be happy to talk about this with them. 4. Buy our books for yourself, your friends, family, or colleagues: books.huri.harvard.edu 5. Invite your local public or university library to buy our books—or buy these books yourself and donate to your library: books.huri.harvard.edu THANK YOU!! #HURIbooks #UkrainianLiterature #UkrainianCulture #UkrainianHistory @HURI_Harvard #DOGE #HandsOff #NEH #StandWithUkraine
